Description

A walkover survey was undertaken by Archaeological and Ancient Landscape Survey in 2004 of the site of a proposed new airport at Ashaig, Skye. The new airport was to be an upgrade of the existing airfield and would be based on the same runway. The fieldwork found that 1 previously recorded and 5 unrecorded sites lay with the the project boundary. In addition to the new sites, 3 isolated lengths of enclosure dyke, 3 areas of lazy-bed cultivation and 2 areas of peat cutting were recorded. Three of the sites would be directly impacted upon by the propsed site works. Mitigation measures were recommended for the sites that would be impacted. <1>
