Full Description

A small group of enclosures near Broadford Airfield, Skye. They were recorded during a walkover survey in 2004 by Archaeological and Ancient Landscape Survey (AALS) in advance of the proposed expansion of the Broadford Airfield. Site 5: A compact grouping of small turf-dyked enclosures which has been partially destroyed by both the construction of the A87T and the Airport access road. This site is partially recorded on the OS 2nd edition 6" map of 1904, and may relate to the now lost Farmstead recorded as NG 62SE 0034 in Table 1 above. A turf boundary dyke which wanders from east to west across the site appears to be cut by the more linear dykes forming the prominent enclosures. This would seem to indicate two distinct and separate periods of enclosures. <1>

The site is just about visible in vertical aerial photography. <2>
