Full Description

A walkover survey was conducted by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1996 for a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme application.

Site No: 34
Site name: Samalama.
Description: A solitary round ended drystone structure measuring 9m by 3m lies in the middle of a field of rigs. It is aligned E/W and the entrance faces N. The walls survive to lm high and may be turf capped. It is more likely to be a barn or store than a dwelling house.
Recommendation: As it lies in an area planned for natural regeneration major protection should not be necessary. Periodic weeding should be carried out to prevent damage from falling timber and tree roots. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 16/5/25)
