Full Description

An archaeological assessment was carried out by J G Robertson in 1996 as part of an environmental impact assessment for a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme application. The assessment consisted largely of the detailed study of a single 1988 aerial photograph.

Site 19: Rig and Furrow. Area of rig and furrow, immediately West of the modern road (and WGS boundary).
Refs: Only a few traces are visible on the AP but a much larger area wasrecorded on the map extract provided by Tilhill Economic Forestry.
Recommendation: Ground inspection - check extent of cultivation. Examine other Aps, for further traces and, if possible, record the rig and furrow from enlarged Aps. <1>

A follow-up full walkover survey was conducted by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1996.

Site No: 19.
Site name: Glenuig
Description: No rigs were observed on the groun south of Enclosure 17 and west of the modern road. In places this area was obscured by heavy bracken growth which may have hidden such features or the AP may be deceptive and such features do not exist. As this is an area of natural regeneration any features still surviving may yet survive.
Recommendation: No special protection irequired. <2>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 14/5/25)
