Full Description

An archaeological assessment was carried out by J G Robertson in 1996 as part of an environmental impact assessment for a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme application. The assessment consisted largely of the detailed study of a single 1988 aerial photograph.

Site 16: Wall. Straight wall, roughly parallel with another wall, No. 15, subdividing a large area bounded by walls, Nos. 8 and 9. It is presumably contemporary with these, forming part of a relatively late system of land division.
Refs: Marked on OS Map and visible on AP.
Recommendation: Ground inspection - does the western end join wall No. 8? <1>

A follow-up full walkover survey was conducted by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1996.

Site No: 16

Description: This turf dyke survives as a low feature no more than 0.25m high. It does not extend further W than the extent shown on the current OS map. Its function and date are uncertain, but as with feature 15 this appears to be a late subdivision of Glenuig township.
Recommendation: This lies within an area planned for natural regeneration. No special protection should be required for this feature.<2>

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <3>
