Full Description
Four shieling-huts were recorded at the confluence of two small burns during a pre-afforestation survey by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1997. The shieling-huts ranged from 4m to 8m in length by 3m in width and appeared to have turf walls over stone footings. They were all rectangular, or possibly oval with rounded corners, on plan. At least two dairy stores were located by the burn and a third lay close to the huts. To the west of the buildings a 5.5m long stone dyke blocked the south end of a natural hollow to create an 18m long animal pen. <1>
