A further date was obtained  from a peat core (basal 8 cm) from Area 
12, Core 1. AA-29348 5880+-55   

All post-excavation tasks are now completed and I am currently 
finalising the publication draft for submission to PSAS in Novemeber.

Lednagullin hut circles: radiocarbon dates

To keep you up-to-date with the progress of the post-excavation for this project,
please find below a list of the radiocarbon dates we have just 
received from SURRC, and their dates calibrated using Oxcal.  All of 
these dates are AMS with the exception of GU-7428 which is a 
radiometric date from a bulk sample of charcoal which filled a pit, 
located outside the hut circle, during the watching brief.  Also 
within the pit was a fragment of sheet bronze with an iron rivet 
which is consistent with the 1st Millennium AD date (F Hunter pers. 
comm).  As the dates show it would appear that all three hut-circles 
are of the same period, and that two phases of occupation are 
apparent in Mercer's Site.146
