Hut Circles (NR) OS 6"map, (1964)
Two hut circles (A and B) were discovered during field investigation. Visited by OS (J L D) 1 June 1961.
Hut A is well-preserved, measuring 11.7m internal diameter within a wall of stones and earth spread to 1.5m wide, but broadening to 2.5m wide at the entrance in the W arc. The wall is contained by an inner face of slabs and boulders. What appears to be a later sheep shelter intrudes onto the wall. Within the hut is an arc of stones on edge about 4m long, possibly the remains of an inner hut concentrically placed. Just outside the entrance, on the N side is a pile of stones, probably clearance, which gives the impression of extending the entrance on this side.
Hut 'B' is 8m internal diameter within a wall obscured by peat and heather spread to 2m wide. The entrance is in SE arc.
In the vicinity of the huts is an area of smooth stone-free ground, which appears to have been cultivated. Only two stone clearance heaps are discernible, but this area is naturally free of stones.
Visited by OS (N K B) 7 April 1976.
The site is visible in vertical aerial photography. <1> <2>
