Full Description
NC85NE 7 8949 5527.
At NC 8949 5527, on the lower slopes of a west-facing hillside near hut circle-associated field system (NC85NE 3), is a heather-covered burnt mound. It is 11.0m NE-SW by 9.5m and 1.0m high. A depression on the top, 4.0m diameter and 0.6m deep, leads into a deeper, crescentic depression opening out of the SW side of the mound facing a dried up watercourse; in the depression are one or two slab-like stones but it is uncertain if they form part of a structure. Erosion of the mound reveals a content of blackened earth and friable stone.
Surveyed at 1/10,000. Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (J M) 25 May 1977.
