OS 6"map, (1962)
This is a large well-preserved burnt mound situated within a deserted township (NC 82 SW9) adjacent to a stream. It is horse-shoe shaped, with its open end towards the stream in the south-west, and measures 9.5m NW-SE by 8.5m transversely and 0.9m high. It is covered by heather and peat, and no burnt stones are visible.
The only evidences of an associated field system are about six stone clearance heaps about 100.0m to the north outside the township wall. They are of a size and disposition to indicate association with a settlement of hut circles, but no huts remain.
