James Cree's field notebooks contain a reference to a small cairn in a field adjoining the Hotel to the south. The cairn is described as about 15 feet in diameter, but only a few inches above the natural level of the ground.
NMRS MS/28/632 (2) 2 July 1928

Historic Assynt surveyed this site in February 2015.

Cree's Notebook of 1928 and the HER grid ref are to a field south of the hotel and a possible cairn can be found there. His description matches a feature on the highest point of small natural ridge east of marshy ground around the head of Loch Assynt. A roughly circular low mound densely covered by clumps of rough grass suggesting a possible cairn of about 14 or 15m in diameter. On the western side the ridge falls away and here there may be a robbed or collapsed area of cairn material with loose quartzite stones tumbling down the slope. Limestone cliffs to the south east with springs issuing from below them and flowing into the marshy ground along the River Traligill and Loch Assynt to the north west the cairn could have been a very noticeable feature when first built and is sited to exploit the views across to the Loch and Quinag beyond. <1>
