Full Description

A double storey 'U' plan steading. Upper floor, apart from threshing barn and hay loft over stable, is a granary. The vents from the byre stalls are ducted using wooden panels which open into the roof space. The farm took its present form in the mid 1960s. It has been used to over-winter cattle for the past 30 years or so. The grain bruiser is powered using a tractor and a flat belt.
The threshing machine (made by Morton & Errol, Perthshire) was a water-powered, low speed, peg-drum type roller feed. (Details shown on MS/744/31/2).
A small grain dresser is still in use for cleaning the grain stored in the granary, made by 'Shearer Bros., Turriff, NB'. Originally hand-powered, it has been converted to electric power using a small domestic appliance electric motor and 'N' belt drive. The driver pulley, fixed to the fanner shaft, is a push-bike wheel (see MS/744/31/1-2 for details).
