Full Description

NH57NW 8.4 5208 7742

About 40m NE of the track to Cille Mhuire church (NH57NW 2), adjacent to the plantation, there are the remains of a farmstead set in a hollow on a SW-facing slope. It comprises a long, three-celled building with two bedneuks and a second structure immediately to the NE. The main building measures 22m from NE to SW by 4.5m transversely over grass-covered rubble footings up to 0.3m high. The bedneuks are slightly staggered on opposite sides of the building and measure 3m in length by 2m in width externally. A terraced passage runs around the N end of the building. The second structure is too disturbed to allow accurate measurements, but it occupies the terrace to the NE of the first building and is at least 7m long with two compartments. A bank of large boulders runs along the E side of this terrace and up the steep scarp that marks the back of the hollow within which the farmstead is situated. The back of the hollow has been partly infilled with boulders from recent clearance. Visited by RCAHMS (PJD) 15 November 1989
