Full Description
NJ02NW 9 0214 2586.
Straddling a scrub grown glacial ridge at NJ 0214 2586 is fort (information from G A Dixon, 13 Thirlestone Road, Edinburgh) comprising a level oval area measuring about 14.5m NW-SE by about 10.5m transversely.It is surrounded at a lower level by a ditch about 2.5m wide and about 0.5m deep reduced to a slight terrace by soil creep in the NE and SW and measuring about 22.0m NW-SE by about 19.0m transversely between its centres.
A rampart about 2.5m wide and about 0.3m high occupies the outer lip of the ditch where it crosses the spine of the ridge on the NW.
An entrance causeway about 2.0m wide has been left across the ditch where it crosses the spine in the SE. There is no trace of stonework at any point on the fort, which is similar to NH85SW 9.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
