Full Description

A township comprising thirteen roofed, three unroofed buildings, four enclosures, some field walls and a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1879, sheet xxx). There are three rectilinear plots at the S end of the township which indicates the partial allocation of crofts.
Ten roofed buildings, one of which has an attached enclosure, ten unroofed buildings, four other enclosures, some field walls and the fragmentary remains of a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1988).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 31 October 1996

The survey of Balachuirn, Balmeanach, Brae, Inbhire (Inver on OS 1:10,000 map) and the surrounding area was carried out by ACFA in April 1996 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay.

Feature 3. House/Barn; A sub-rectangular structure measuring 9m x 5m lies roughly east-west on its long axis. The walls are low, constructed of stone which is now grass-covered, and average 0.8m in width. A very large boulder has been incorporated into the structure's base in the east wall. A break in the stonework is probably an entrance of about 0.8m width in the north wall. Remains of stone walling are possibly indicative of an internal wall. Stone which is accumulated in the southwest comer may be the remains of later usage as a lambing pen. Some 2m north of the north wall, rough boulders form a wall some 4m long which may have been built to protect the entrance.<1>
