The sites of the associated military areas and buildings related to RAF Alness at Dalmore.

Full info awaited.
Trial trenching was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2005 over part of the area in advance of a proposed housing development. Two of the former RAF camp areas which are now close to the modern line of the A9 road were affected. The area had clearly been disturbed by military activity as well as subsequent site clearance. A scatter of fragmentary artefacts from that period was noted within the topsoil. Beneath this, site clearance had been thorough and the subsoil comprised clean, natural mixed periglacial sands and gravels with some areas of rounded stones. A number of prehistoric featires were exposed and recorded across the development site (see MHG55239 and MHG55328). A number of other possible features were investigated that proved to be the result of tree roots and animal burrowing. <2>
The excavation assemblage was submitted to Treasure Trove (TT 159/13) and allocated to Inverness Museum. <3>
