Situated about 500m from the N end of the Screapadal Forest walk and 10m to the W of the track is a stone-built longhouse in reasonable condition. The walls still stand to 1.5m in most places. The longhouse is aligned E-W and is subdivided internally into three compartments; a doorway into each compartment is situated in the S wall. Fireplaces are built into the thickness of both the E and W ends. Overall measurements are 15.5m E-W by 5.5m N-S; the walls are 0.6m thick. (Shown on OS 6-inch map, 1964.) <1>
Feature 13; House. Known locally as Tote Tigh an Achaidh Ath (Ruin of the house in the field of the kiln), this well preserved longhouse lies by the west side of the forest road about 300m from the north gate. The dry-stone built walls still stand to wall plate height. The end walls are square with rounded corners with evidence of fireplaces centrally at each end. Overall the interior measures 13.5m by 4m on a north-east to south-west axis. Three entrances, all about 1m wide, appear on the south east wall, ahhough one of these may well be a window. Although there is much tumble in the middle it seems likely that the building had two equal sized rooms, the south west room being sub-divided by a 0.5m thick wall to provide a chamber 4m by little more than 1m wide.
About 2m to the north is a small stone built structure 2.5m square that may have been a store; there is no evidence of an entrance. No sign of the remains of a kiln, which presumably' gave the site its name, could be found in the surrounding forest.
The site is recorded on the OS map. <2>
