Full Description

A former area of accomodation camp for Tain Airfield. Known as 'Dispersed Site 4'. It has now been redeveloped for housing and no visible trace of the camp survives, though an area of woodland may be concealing some remains.

Detailed plans of the airfield dating to 1945-6 are held by the Royal Air Force Museum. A digital copy (albeit undated) is held in the HER collections. The camp is shown and labelled on the plan. <1>

Some 900m ENE from the camps at the crossroads (NH88SW 14.06) are two further accomodation camps for Tain Airfield. Both hutted areas lie to the S of the public road and there is little surviving upstanding remains. A few hut bases and a transformer building are all that can be seen. The camp furthest E has been built on by new housing.
Known as Nos.2 and 4 dispersed sites they included quarters for officers WO's and Sergeants, wheras No.4 accommodation site was mainly living quarters for all ranks.
