Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.

This area is characterised by the remains of low stone dykes and stone rickles running NE-SW with the fall of the land, and low clearance heaps. The ground appears particularly poor - perhaps the turf has been stripped from this area, as it appears to have been from above the main road north of the Alligin gorge.

Set against an outcrop so that the back wall is the rock, is a rectangular structure with a single pitch higher at the outcrop side than the other. It is c4m by c2m over walls c0.4m thick and standing to c1m high, although higher at the east end with the lintelled entrance. This opening is only c0.75m high and c0.6m wide and MM identifies it as a sheep shelter or pen.<1>
