Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden.

This ruined mortared cottage with abutting stone-built structures faces SW overlooking the river Torridon and is marked on the 1875 OS map. The rendered gables stand to full height, with their chimney stacks. The front rendered wall has its central doorway and a window to either side, the rear rendered wall has no openings. The two unrendered structures that extend from the SE gable each have an entrance in the SW wall and a possible small yard to the front - they were once kennels. Overall the ruined building with its abutting structures is c16m long and c5m wide, with the abutting structures only being c2.5m wide, over walls c0.7m thick. By 1902 the building is no longer referred to as the kennels on the OS map. <1>
