Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.

A well-coursed drystone structure with vertical walls measuring c5.5m by c3m internally is sited in the middle of a drystone dyked enclosure. The east gable of the structure survives up to c1.5m high. This building may have been inserted into an earlier building c9-10m long aligned SW-NE, and a roofed building is shown in this area on the 1837 estate map. It had no roof by the time of the 1875 OS map survey, but had been re-roofed by the time of the 1902 OS map survey. The enclosure, however, is not recorded in 1875. The enclosure wall is best preserved at the north where it stands up to c1 .6m high. <1>
