Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.

This ground, bounded by the Allt Murchaidh to thenorthN, the Lovelace fence to the east and other stock fences to the west and south has three slight features on it which are all likely to be peat stack bases. The remains of peat cuttings are to be seen east of the Lovelace fence.
130a NG85895727 A stone setting, oval in shape, measures some 3.5m by 2.5m, which is probably a peat stack base (c23m up the fence to north of path, on its west side).
130b NG85875741 MM records this as a grassy platform against a cliff - possibly a small pen at one time. JW records it as a peat stack base.
130c NG85895755 MM records this as the footings of a small bothy on the south bank of the burn by the crossing of the Lovelace fence. It measures c3.5m by c2m internally, with walls up to cXXm high and c XXm thick. JW records it as a peat stack base MM3. <1>
