Full Description
A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.
There is an area of extensive peat cutting along the SW flank of the hill at about 300m OD. Across the area there are at least 6 shieling structures/peat stack bases. They are sited on low mounds/uncut islands of rushes and grass within the peat. Very few have any stones showing through the grass/rushes but each measures c4m by c2.5m. It is unclear if these are peat stacks or decayed remnants of a dispersed shieling area. <1>
