Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.

What may have been the coffin cairn by the roadside dedicated to Duncan Darroch has probably been used as a quarry pit for the road, but a memorial stone just to the east survives.
"THIS STONE WAS ERECTED IN 1912 BT ANN …. OF DUNCAN DARROCH OF GOUROCK AND TORRIDON IN MEMORY OF THE DEVOTION AND AFFECTION SHOWN BY ONE HUNDRED MEN ON THE ESTATE OF TORRIDON WHO AT THEIR OWN REQUEST CARRIED HIS BODY FROM THE HOUSE HERE ON ITS WAY TO INTERMENT IN THE FAMILY BURYING PLACE AT GOUROCK" <1>
