Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden between 1996 and 2002.

A single oval structure c5m by c2m internally, aligned approximately E/W on the east bank of Alltan Glas. The walls are c0.5m wide by c0.5m high and partially turf covered. A large boulder has fallen inside the structure at the east end. Shown as 'shealing' on 1837 survey and possibly still in use at this date. No other structures visible in this area. Suspected as possible still site. M Macdonald records it as a solitary bothy; no obvious improved grazing in the vicinity but called a shieling on the Campbell-Smith estate map of 1837. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates and report photograph. (TB 15/10/25)
