Full Description

A two-celled shieling hut to the west of the Allt Na Pairte, Strath, Skye.

The feature was recorded by M Wildgoose during a walkover survey in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Lying amongst bracken and grass about 60m to the west of and above the Boreraig path are the remains of a two celled stone shieling. The shieling lies on a north-west to south-east alignment and consists of a sub-rectangular northern cell which measures 2.8m by 1.4m within a wall 0.70m thick. Attached to the south-east end of the larger cell is a half circular cell which measures 2.4m by 1.6m within a wall of similar width. A beautifully preserved creep connects the two cells. A narrow entrance lies in the north-east wall of the rectangular cell. <1>

The feature is not visible on available vertical aerial photography at the given grid reference and the vegetation at that location does not match the description. However, c.56m to the north-northeast lies a feature which fits the description exactly. <2>
