Full Description

A two-celled shieling hut to the east of the Allt Na Peighinn, Strath, Skye.

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 during a survey in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Forty five metres to the northwest of another shieling hut (see MHG64772) and c.90m to the northwest of a previously noted pen (see MHG6260) lies a two-celled shieling hut. This structure lies on a northwest to southeast alignment, and comprises a sub-rectangular stone cell which measures 6m by 3m over walls 1m thick with a 2m diameter cell attached to its northwest end. This shieling also appears to overlie an earlier rectangular structure. The remains of a massively built stone slab wall lie to the northeast side of the site. <1>

The feature is visible in vertical aerial photography. <3>

The "…massively-built stone slab wall" referred to in the description in <1> is the head dyke boundary of the earlier pre-crofting township of Boreraig (see MHG64735) [IS-L 13/10/2025].
