Full Description

A multi-celled shieling hut to the east of the Allt Na Peighinn, Strath, Skye.

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 during a survey in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Thirty metres to the northwest of a previously noted pen (see MHG6260) is a ruinous 3 cell, stone shieling comprising a 3m diameter cell with a 1.5m diameter cell attached to its southwest side and a 2m diameter cell attached to its northwest side. This shieling appears to overly an earlier structure of rectangular plan. The remains of a massively built stone slab wall lie to the northeast side of the site. <1>

The feature is visible in vertical aerial photography. <3>

The "…massively-built stone slab wall" referred to in the description in <1> is the head dyke boundary of the earlier pre-crofting township of Boreraig (see MHG64735) [IS-L 13/10/2025].
