Full Description
Two shieling huts and a small pen at Tòrr Mòr, Strath, Skye.
The sites were recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Amongst dense bracken on the east side of the Allt na Peighinn, and only 90m to the southwest of Site 09 (see MHG6260), are the remains of 2 stone built shielings. The larger of the two shielings is circular in plan and measures 3m in diameter over walls 0.7m thick. An opening 2m wide lies in the south facing side of the shieling. About 12m to the north, and up the slope, are the disturbed remains of a small, circular, stone pen which measures 1.5m in overall diameter. <1>
