Full Description

Remains of a bothy to the northeast of Tòrr Mòr, Strath, Skye.

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. A well preserved, stone built, bothy with rounded corners to the north side and square corners to the south/front side. The remains are attached to the west side of a massive earth and stone dyke which runs north-west to south-east across the contours of the ground. This structure measures 8m east to west by 5m north to south over walls which stand to a maximum of 1.2 high and are 0.8m - 1m thick. A door opening, 0.70m wide, lies at the west end of the south wall. The remains of a narrow, splayed, window are visible in the west, end, wall. <1>

The given grid reference for this feature is slightly incorrect. A feature answering the description is visible on vertical aerial photography c.45m to the west. The massive dyke to which it is attached is the head dyke boundary between the Heaste and Boreraig pre-crofting townships (see MHG64734 and MHG64735). <2>
