Full Description

A shieling hut to the west of Beinn nan Carn, Skye.

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. A ruinous 2 cell, stone, shieling lying at the foot of a north facing scree slope in the dry bed of a small stream. The remains are aligned east to west with the larger cell at the west/lower end. The larger cell measures 2m in diameter within walls 1m thick. The smaller cell measures 1.5m in diameter within walls 1.10m thick. There is no visible entrance. Like Site 1 to the north (see MHG64758) this shieling is again built of limestone boulders and slabs and lies within a green grassy patch in the heather. <1>

The given grid reference for this feature appears to be slightly incorrect. A feature answering the description is visible on vertical aerial photography c.58m to the south-southeast. <2>
