Full Description

The probable township of Dalamein. <1>

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment was undertaken by A Coombs at Dalnamein for the Sutherland Longhouse Project, a community engagement project hosted by Historylinks Museum, Dornoch in 2019-20.

Site 31: The house was occupied until the late 20th century. It may well have been built soon after the settlement was cleared in 1813 to create the large Torboll sheep farm. The house is stone built with a brick-built extension on the north wall. The house has been harled and has a slate roof. The house had a small, fenced garden to the south and west. The fence has collapsed and is disappearing. There are the remains of an older wall or revetting beyond the modern fence, which may have been a garden built at the same time as the house or may possibly pre-date the house. <2>
