Full Description

The probable township of Dalamein. <1>

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment was undertaken by A Coombs at Dalnamein for the Sutherland Longhouse Project, a community engagement project hosted by Historylinks Museum, Dornoch in 2019-20.

Site 28: The circular structure has an overall size of 21m with walls c. 6m wide consisting of a considerable amount of tumble. The structure sits up above the surrounding ground. There are large gaps in the north and south arcs of the structure and there are suggestions of a rectangular building 12m N-S by 4m within the circle, however probing found no stone. It is possible that the circular structure is a round house which has been overlaid with clearance stone from the surrounding rig and furrow cultivation. <2>

NGR adjusted based on 2011 vertical aerial photographs. <3>
