Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment was undertaken by J Wordsworth and J Harden at Torridon for the National Trust for Scotland in 1996-2002.

About 30m to the north (of MHG64670) is an ovoid stone structure c3m in diameter with walls up to c1.2m high built against a large boulder. The entrance on the north is c0.25m wide. There is a small creep-type exit on the south c0.6m high & c0.5m wide at the base. Not shown in 1837. This shieling area may be contemporary with TOR033 (MM) but if JW is correct then it may predate or postdate TOR033. The Slugach is a grassy flush now dominated by coarse grasses but may have been more herb-rich in the past. Botanical survey to establish extent of former grazings? <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 17/9/25)
