Full Description

A rapid archaeological survey of a proposed WGS application at Aryhoulan, Ardgour near Fort William was carried out in 2000 by J. Wordsworth.

Site 5: At the extreme SE of the survey area adjacent to the existing fence line are the footings of a longhouse 8m by 4m aligned N?S. It is set on a slight grassy bracken-clad knoll. An additional structure 5m by 2m abuts the NE corner of the first on the same alignment. To the east of the building the remains of cultivation rigs can be faintly seen running downslope towards the road. These remains represent a small croft or cottar settlement, abandoned by the middle of the 19thc. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>

Note; the NGR in the report is incorrect by 1km to the west. (TB 18/8/25)
