Full Description

A rapid archaeological survey of a proposed WGS application at Aryhoulan, Ardgour near Fort William was carried out in 2000 by J. Wordsworth.

Site 2: An area of grassland with cultivation rigs averaging 2m in width running both E/W and N/S. At NM 9905 6858 are the stone footings of a longhouse aligned E/W and measuring 7m by 4m. The interior is filled with common rush. This is interpreted as a small croft or cottar settlement dating to the late 18th/early 19th century. 10m south of the NW corner of the existing plantation the remains of a stone-faced bank can be seen extending west for c50m. Beyond this point it is no longer visible but an external ditch can be traced curving north towards the road. <1>

Note; the eastings in the report are incorrect and site position generated from report map and 2020 Aps. (TB 18/8/25)
