Full Description

A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart.

Site 1: Slight traces were found of an enclosure to the north of An Goirtean. The dykes for this, particularly on the north side, were heavily robbed, presumably as fuel when this enclosure was no longer required. The turf and stone dyke survives as a substantial feature 1.25m high, 0.75m wide at the top and 1.25-1.5m wide at the base. The NW wall survives as a slighter feature, the line of it as shown, presumably because a less substantial boundary was required at this point. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
