Full Description

A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart. <1>

Site 12: A small area of rig cultivation lies to the south of enclosure site 13. It is heavily covered with bracken and tree regeneration. The boundaries of this enclosure are not clearly defined, other than as shown.

Site 13: Between site 12 and Torr an Tighe turf dykes define an area of former cultivation, now bracken-clad. The walls though slumped, are reasonably well-defined. The approximate position of the enclosure walls is as shown. The width of the rigs was not evident.

Soite 14: On the gently sloping plateau of Torr an Tighe are the remains of former rig cultivation. Spaced on average c3m apart. The E and W walls are clearly defined but the N wall is less substantial and less well-preserved. The W wall appears to run over this N wall suggesting there is a sequence to the use of these walls. Bracken grows fairly strongly in this area but is less vigorous than in the enclosures to the S.<1>

NGR adjusted based on 2020 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
