Full Description

A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart. <1>

Site 5: As drawn on the current OS map , a substantial largely turf built dyke , up to 1.5m high, defines a substantial enclosure on the east side of the Scotus Burn. Traces of rig cultivation from a distance but were not sufficiently visible to be measured on the ground. The north and west sides of this enclosure presumably formed part of the head dyke linking with site 4 (see MHG64548). The area is extensively covered in bracken and woodland obscures the south end of this feature. <1>
