Full Description
A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart. <1>
Site 3: To the south and east of a prominent knoll are the remains of a substantial area of former rig cultivation defined by largely turf dykes. The rigs are largely invisible on the ground being obscured by dense bracken. They appeared to measure 3-4m wide. The extent shown on plan is schematic and the precise should be defined in the field during planting operations. The enclosure dyke at the south extends into what is now mature woodland. A small fragment of rig cultivation survives within the wood to the SE and may have once formed part of a larger field extending towards Scottas and the Scotus Burn. <1>
