Full Description

A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart. <1>

Site 1: 40m below the first of a series of small waterfalls on the N bank of the Abhainn Bheag are the remains of a largely drystone dyke defining an enclosure measuring c40m by 35m with the east side formed by the gorge of the river. Much of the walling has either been robbed or more probably washed away. It is assumed to be an animal enclosure, possibly connected with the ?shieling site listed below. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 2020 vertical aerial photographs. <2>

Note: Site only partly visible on Aps. (TB 6/8/25)
