Full Description

A township, comprising twenty-three roofed, two partially roofed, nine unroofed buildings, three enclosures and a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1876, sheet lxxvi). Fourteen roofed buildings, one partially roofed building, sixteen unroofed buildings, eight enclosures and the head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1970).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 29 July 1996.
A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart. <1>
Site 3: Remains of a former enclosure. Traces of the enclosure wall survive best at the SE as shown but presumably extended around the basin as suggested. It was probably an area of former rig cultivation but is now degraded presumably from turf cutting, probably explaining why the rest of the enclosure dyke no longer survives. It lies partly within and partly without the proposed fence line. <1>
NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
