Full Description

A group of possibly prehistoric pits in part forming a possible structure were excavated at Fanellan. They were identified during a watching brief by Northlight Heritage supervising topsoil stripping in 2011 within the extents of a tower compound (BF8) which formed part of the Beauly to Denny 400kV overhead line development programme. Subsequent archaeological excavation revealed a number of negative-cut archaeological features, the majority of which appeared only as a scatter, although a possible structure or shelter was identified in the western part of the excavation area. As no artefacts were found during the excavation and the features were heavily truncated, the function and date of the site could not be definitively determined at this stage. All archaeological features uncovered were fully excavated and recorded. <1>
