Full Description

An enclosure and possible shieling hut beside the Abhainn Bheag (River Dyke), Forsinard.

The feature was seen and recorded during a walkover survey by the University of Edinburgh led by R Mercer in 1977: DYK 8: Enclosure. Dimensions: 20m x 500m. Rectangular enclosure with ?earth banks covered with grass and moss. Possible shieling attached. Orientation: N-S. Elevation: 114m (375') O.D. NC 861489. <1>

The site map showing the location of this feature in <1> puts it close to and on the west side of the Abhainn Bheag and although the grid reference is imprecise there is an enclosure visible in vertical aerial photographs on that side of the burn in this general location. However, the stated dimensions must be in error. The visible enclosure is roughly rectangular but measures c.100m x 60m at its widest and c.30m at its narrowest. <2> <3>
