Four roofed buildings, which include a school, one partially roofed building, eleven unroofed buildings and some field walls are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1988).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 18 October 1996
An archaeological walkover survey of a single, distinct area of proposed planting of natural woodland regeneration was carried by M. Wildgoose at Coille an Torran, Raasay in 1999.
Site 20; Abutting the south-west side of the Torran path, approximately 80.0m to the south-east of the old post office, are the grassed over foundations of a small stone building. This building measures 6.0m by 4.0m over walls 1.0m thick. The north-east end of the building appears to have been truncated by the path, perhaps indicating that the path post-dates the ruin. There is now no obvious door opening and it is possible that evidence for a door was removed when the path cut through the end of the building. <1>
Raasay Survey. Site 8: A truncated oval structure with walls 1.00m wide and 0.80m high has been cut by the footpath. Local information and its Gaelic place name give this structure as the old school before the present Torran school was built. Lying roughly east-west on its long axis the remains of the structure measure 5.OOm x 3.00m internally. Some stone is visible under turf and grass. Some stone lying under the turf to the east of the footpath suggests that the building may have been considerably longer, with the stone from the east section being used for the footpath. No entrances, windows or internal features remain. <2> Note; NGR incorrect in report (TB 11/7/25)
NGR adjusted based on 2009 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
