Full Description

An archaeological walkover survey of a single, distinct area of proposed planting of natural woodland regeneration was carried by M. Wildgoose at Coille an Torran, Raasay in 1999.

Site 16: On a level terrace, directly below the Mission House at Torran, is a well preserved but somewhat denuded ring cairn 5.0m in diameter and about 1.0m in height. Set around the base of the cairn is a ring of largish stones; some set on edge, which acts as a kerb to the mound of smaller stones within. The mound has collapsed over the kerb in places. Four metres to the east of the cairn, and close to a short flight of steps leading up to the Mission House, is the stony outline of a small, cleared, garden plot. <1>
