Full Description

The former township of Sallachy near Killen to the east of Loch Brora.

The area is shown and labelled on a Sutherland Estate Map by D Aitkin dating to 1775 relating to a land ownership dispute between the Countess of Sutherland and the owner of Carroll on the opposite side of Loch Brora. Sallachy is shown split in two, presumably showing how ownership was divided. Written across the northern half on the map is "The howse and Dyke A B C [these are three of the corners of the boundary dyke] throuen doun by the Countess" <1>

On vertical aerial photography the township or farmship is surrounded for the most part by a substantial boundary dyke. The smaller, southern portion would appear to be an addition, with its boundary dyke being less substantial. <2>
