Full Description

Enclosures to the northwest of Lettermore (Leitirmhòr). The features are visible in vertical aerial photography and comprise a larger dyked enclosure with at least one smaller enclosure within it. The OS 1st Edition 6 inch map shows two roughly circular enclosures in a figure of eight configuration with a short length of dyke at this location but by the time of the OS 2nd Edition they had been replaced by a rectangular multi-celled sheepfold which still exists. Neither the larger outer enclosure, whch measures c.220m x 69m (at its widest point) nor the smaller internal oval enclosure centered at NGR 260845 948086 and which measures c.16m in diameter are shown on any OS mapping. It is entirely possible that both the original 'figure eight' enclosures and the still extant oval enclosure may originally have been hut circles, though the oval enclosure is perhaps less convincing. <1> <2> <3>
