Full Description

A desk based assessment and rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out at Torroble, Lairg by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1999.

Site No.4 : A possible structure 5m square defined by stony walls up to 0.75m high survives on the edge of the heather area. At least 2 birch trees have established themselves within or on the walls of this structure. The probable entrance is adjacent to a large boulder on the W.
The function and date of this building is not known.
Recommendation: The birch trees should be removed within and adjacent to this building and the stumps treated. A regular programme of weeding should be established to prevent regeneration on or within the building. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 11/6/25).
