Full Description

A desk based assessment and rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out at Torroble, Lairg by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1999.

Site No.3 : A circular basin 4m in diameter by 1.5m deep sits at the E end of a heather-clad ridge at the E end of the moorland enclosure. A few pine trrees grow downslope and one has collapsed adjacent to this feature, partly obscuring it.
Recommendation: This should be left unplanted with an appropriate buffer of c20m f it is proposed to plant this area. A programme of weeding may be necessary to prevent future damage. Ideally the pine should be removed away from this feature. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 11/6/25).
